Ten of Sunday's Starting Pitchers Combine to set MLB Record

Sunday was a day for pitchers. Of course there were walk-offs and amazing defensive efforts all over the league but the real story of the day surrounded ten of the day’s starting pitchers. The combined performances of Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals,Garrett Richards of the Angels, Ryan Vogelsong of the Giants, Dillon Gee of the Mets, Collin McHugh of the (surprise!) Astros, James Shields of the Royals, Jason Hammel of the Cubs,Ian Kennedy of the Padres, Julio Teheran of the Braves and the Reds’ Johnny Cueto set a Major League Baseball record. For the first time in MLB history ten starting pitchers each pitched at least seven complete innings giving up just three or fewer hits. Firsts in MLB, a sport with such a long and rich history, do not happen that often making Sunday’s performances all the more special.
